It goes without saying, but I will anyway, that I'm not responsible for the content on any external Websites to which I have provided a link.  I can say that at the time I created the link they weren't full of porn or viruses, but you take your own chances if you follow a link .....

In no particular order, the following are some of my favourite sites, or at least are sites which are of passing interest at the moment (Ooh, a shiny thing .........!):

All links should open in a new browser window

I've discovered a rather good Website where you can read, and write, recommendations about pubs, clubs and restaurants throughout the UK. It's driven by what users say, not by adverts placed by the establishments, so should be as fair and unbiased as it can be (within the bounds of human nature of course!).

Their site says:

Trustedplaces is a community of real people, like you and me, who all have opinions on places they have experienced in their daily lives. By being part of the community you can share your opinions on places that you know, trust and recommend - or even avoid - with all of your friends and their friends too. Discovering great new places is both fun and easy as you tap into all the recommendations shared by the community - it is also great value as you enjoy special offers from participating businesses.

I've signed up (it's free) and posted a fair few reviews already. Why not have a look and see what you think. In fact, if you follow any of the links in this blurb, and then sign up, you will automatically be added as my friend on the site.

Give it a look, you can always choose not to sign up if you don't like it! You've nothing to lose!

Waiter Rant Blog is written by, funnily enough, a waiter in new York and is one of the two best blogs I've come across, although recently it's nothing like as good as it used to be  Read it and also Random Acts of Reality, which is the other of the two best ones and is all about the Ambulance Service in London.

I am a member of a mailing list of Cathedral Lay Clerks and one of the main interests of many members is beer.  One of the members, Richard Shakeshaft from Lichfield, has created a Website which lists and maps all the pubs regularly used by UK Cathedral choirs, and it can be found here.  It's well worth a look.

Please note that the website moved on 14th April 2006 and the link has now been updated.

This is a really interesting site with some amazing photos of Hamilton Palace which was said to have rivalled Versaille in its splendour and was demolished in the early part of the 20th century after the fixtures and fittings were auctioned off in late 1919.  The only bit which is still there is the mausoleum which is visible from the M74 motorway which runs right past it.  The museum nearby is well worth a visit.

Thanks to Andy Mogendorff for the link on my homepage to the free map showing a visualisation of the locations of any visitors to the site, or at least an estimate of the location of their IP address.  Andy used to sing in the choir of St Mary's Cathedral in Glasgow.  Read all about his daily life in his blog.

In a strange way the buildings at risk register for Scotland makes for interesting reading!

Some excellent photos of Newcastle upon Tyne here, albeit there are some strange ones amongst the collection!

Go on, see if you can spot your first ever computer here.

The Website of the church of St Peter and All Saints, Nottingham is an excellent example of church Website design.  Clear, interesting and informative.  Give it a look.

Hurrah!  I've found the singing horses again!  A while ago I found, and bookmarked, this page but a subsequent hard drive problem then change of Browser to Firefox meant I'd lost the bookmark and to be honest had forgotten about it.  I've just accidentally found it (via StumbleUpon), so for several minutes worth of innocent fun, go play!  Click on each horse to toggle their sound on and off.

The Rules of Etiquette on London Underground!

This is quite an interesting Blog about the London Underground

Glasgow Renaissance Singers are now called Cathures and they have built a nice new Website (shame about the new name though)

StumbleUpon is a free tool that lets you browse, review and share Websites.  StumbleUpon is backed by a community of members who explore and review sites they like. These reviews help everyone discover the best sites and meet like-minded people.  StumbleUpon is a community-oriented and personalized approach to web surfing. Offering users (Stumblers) a free service to easily discover great web sites, StumbleUpon is not a search engine or directory, but a browser add-on which automates "word of mouth" recommendations of quality web sites. The people-driven technology combines human recommendations with machine learning of personal preferences and interests to filter through the vast amount of information on the web and direct users to relevant, high-quality web sites.  It says here!

No doubt about it, shove your Internet Explorer where the sun don't shine!Get Firefox  You just HAVE to use Firefox.
